Insolvency Insider provides the following analysis of the 244 insolvency filings highlighted in 2020.

• Retail led all industries with 45 filings mentioned, followed by real estate with 23 filings, manufacturing with 17 filings, food & accommodation with 16 and cannabis with 15.
• 112 filings were in Ontario, followed by 45 in Alberta and 35 in Quebec.
• 53 CCAA filings were mentioned. EY had 15 appointments as monitor, followed by Alvarez & Marsal and PwC with 6 appointments each and Richter and BDO with 4 appointments each.
• Stikeman Elliott was engaged as company counsel in 8 of these CCAA proceedings, followed by Bennett Jones with 7 engagements, Osler with 5 and McCarthy Tétrault and Miller Thomson with 4 engagements each.
