A Summary of Q2 2023 Insolvency Filings
Insolvency Insider has provided a detailed overview of the insolvency filings in Canada from the last quarter. We have summarized the most relevant information of the Q2 2023 insolvency filings for those who practice on the Commercial List here.

Insolvency Insider provides the following analysis of the 64 insolvency filings highlighted in Q2 2023:

  • Manufacturing led all industries with 13 filings mentioned, followed by real estate with 9 filings, and cannabis and distribution with 6 filings each. 
  • 31 filings mentioned were in Ontario, followed by 11 in Alberta and 7 in British Columbia. 
  • 17 CCAA filings were mentioned (one of which filed in late Q1 2023). EY acted as monitor in 5 of these filings, followed by KSV in 3 filings. Several other firms had one or two appointments.
  • Miller Thomson was engaged on 4 CCAA files as company counsel, followed by Stikeman Elliott, MLT Aikins and McCarthy Tétrault with 2 engagements each. Several other firms had one engagement.
