A Summary of 2021 Insolvency Filings
Insolvency Insider has released their annual round-up of the insolvency filings they’ve highlighted in the past year. If you practice on the Commercial List, view our summary of the most relevant information from the 2021 filings here.

Insolvency Insider provides the following analysis of the 203 insolvency filings highlighted in 2021.

  • Real estate led all industries with 37 filings mentioned, followed by oil and gas with 18 and construction with 15.
  • 99 filings mentioned were in Ontario, followed by 45 in Alberta and 24 in Quebec.
  • 26 CCAA filings were mentioned. EY was the monitor in 6 of these filings, followed by FTI in 4, and MNP and Deloitte in 3 each. Several other firms had one or two appointments.
  • Company counsel on these CCAA filings was quite well spread out. MLT Aikins and Stikeman Elliott were each engaged on 3 CCAA files as company counsel, followed by Bennett Jones, Goodmans, McCarthy Tétrault, Osler and TGF with 2 engagements each. Several other firms had one engagement.
