Insolvency Insider has released their round-up of last year’s insolvency filings. If you practice on the Commercial List, view our summary of the most relevant information from the 2022 filings here.

Insolvency Insider provides the following analysis of the 213 insolvency filings highlighted in 2022.

  • Real estate led all industries with 34 filings mentioned, followed by cannabis with 26 and manufacturing with 18. 
  • 114 filings mentioned were in Ontario, followed by 39 in Alberta and 26 in British Columbia. 
  • 38 CCAA filings were mentioned. EY was the monitor in 9 of these filings, followed by A&M, Grant Thornton and KSV in 5 each, and PwC in 3. Several other firms had one or two appointments.
  • Company counsel on these CCAA filings were quite well spread out. Miller Thomson was engaged on 5 CCAA files as company counsel, followed by Bennett Jones, Blakes and Dentons with 3 engagements each. Several other firms had one or two engagements.
